Gastrointestinal (GI) problems, or disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, affect millions of people every day. Common health issues like abdominal pain and diarrhea can be the result of a number of painful and sometimes serious GI conditions or diseases.

Our staff and physicians use the most advanced resources and state of the art equipment, including high-definition scopes and monitors, to provide thorough testing and evaluation.

Endoscopy Procedures

Endoscopy procedures available at Chippewa Valley Hospital include:

  • Colonoscopy
  • Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)
  • Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)
  • Flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • Internal hemorrhoidal banding
  • Liver biopsy

Colonoscopy

A procedure in which a flexible high-definition scope is used to evaluate the large intestine for varied conditions, including polyps that may develop into colon cancer. A screening colonoscopy is recommended for all adults age 50 and older and in younger people with a family history of colon cancer.

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

A procedure used to diagnose and treat a number of disorders that include the ducts of the gallbladder, pancreas, and liver.

Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD)

A procedure in which a flexible high-definition tube is used to visualize the stomach and duodenum for abnormalities including Acid reflux, gastritis, esophagitis, H-Pylori, or peptic ulcer disease.

Flexible sigmoidoscopy

Examination of the lower portion of the large intestine with the use of a flexible high-definition scope. Internal hemorrhoidal banding: A procedure in which a flexible high-definition endoscope is used to help visualize and ligate internal hemorrhoids (veins in the rectum).

Liver biopsy

A procedure used to obtain a small tissue specimen for further examination.
